GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH COUNCIL
Minutes for July 25, 2005
Mission Statement: The Good Shepherd Parish Community, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, seeks to bring a fuller understanding of God's love by teaching, praying, witnessing for Christ and service to one another. We will provide an open door to all who wish to grow in faith, hope, and love of God.
GATHERING AND PRAYER:
Chairperson, Jeff Moser, opened the meeting with a gathering question and followed with the opening prayer.
OPENING OF MEETING:
Attendance was taken with the following members present: Fr. Dennis, Deacon Ken, Tim Eimer, Brian Fitzpatrick, Judy Kolish, Jeff Moser, Steve Schaeffer Mike Schalk and Mary Thoma. Lambert Flowers and Teresa Reissing were excused. Bill Reissing was absent.
Minutes of the June 2005 meeting were distributed and read. A motion was made by Mike and seconded by Tim to approve the minutes as written. All approved.
OPEN/CLOSED FORUM: None
REVIEW/UPDATE:
70th Anniversary
Fr. Dennis gave a brief report on the 70th Anniversary activities. Everything is coming along as planned.
Capital Campaign Report:
Mike Schalk gave an update on the progress of the Capital Campaign, which is shown on a graft posted on the bulletin board in the vestibule of the church. The next Capital Campaign meeting is Wed. July 27th. Members of the committee will be giving a review of the campaign after each mass the weekend of Aug. 20 and 21
.
Parish Appreciation Dinner: Scheduled for the 5:00 p.m. mass on Sept. 10, 2005 and to be hosted by the Parish Council. Mary distributed a "things to do" list. Follow-ups to be discussed at the August meeting.
Parish Mission: Deacon Ken reported on the first pre-mission meeting, held July 21st. Fr. John Kuehner, one of the Redemptorists priests giving the mission in November, chaired the meeting and all mission committee members were present. He gave an overview of the Mission Services. The next planning meeting will be July 27th. At that time, the committee will decide upon a theme for the Parish Mission and develop a mission prayer for people to use at home. Parish Council members were asked to "pray for the mission!"
New PSR Director: Fr. Dennis reported on the hiring of the new PSR Director, Barb McInnis, a member of Good Shepherd Parish. "Welcome, Barb!"
NEW BUSINESS:
Fr. Dennis asked each member of the Parish Council to pray about filling two positions on the council. Two members are unable to remain active at this time.
There was a discussion on the concern of the Atheletic Association for our parish's soccer teams practice fields and the importance of parish support of athletics at Good Shepherd.
DECISION ITEMS:
Approval of By-Law Article X - ANNUAL REPORT
A motion was made by Tim and seconded by Mike to approve the change in the revisions to Article X,
ANNUAL REPORT (revisions written in italic change in bold.)
Section 1 - An annual written summary on the business of all commissions, which may include past achievements, current projects and future plans, will be requested by the Parish Council after the regular scheduled May meeting.
Section 2 - Other reports may also be requested as deemed necessary by the parish council.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Vision/Mission Committee: Steve distributed a sample copy of a parish survey along with the new Mission/Vision Statement. Discussion followed. Fr. Dennis asked that we each pray about any changes to be made to the statement.
Commission Structure: Deacon Ken distributed the updated contact spreadsheet of Parish Organizations under Commission Structure. This is a "living document" and changes will be made as Commission heads change.
The Commission Report letter is to be mailed.
Fr. Dennis touched base with Tom Schmidt on the web site for commission reports. Father plans to meet with Tom to finalize some things.
Communication with parish community:
School Report: Fr. Dennis reported school starts Wed. Aug. 10. Open house will be Sunday, Aug. 7. Seventy students are currently enrolled in the school, K thru 8.
"Good News" newsletter: A schedule of publication dates will be set.
COMMENTS FROM PASTOR: Summer has passed too quickly! There is maintainance to be done at the parish. The church windows need painting, bell tower to be tuckpointed and there's work to be done in the cemetary and garages. A workday will possibly be set in August.
NEXT MEETING DATE:
Next agenda planning meeting - Aug. 13 at Hardees at 8:00 am.
The next regular Parish Council meeting is Aug. 22, 2005, 7:00 p.m. in the café. Steve Schaeffer will provide prayer and refreshments.
CLOSING OF MEETING Fr. Dennis closed the meeting with a prayer, followed by fellowship time. Thank you Jeff for refreshments.
