Thanks to all who participated, set-up (cleaned-up) for this event. The Mass celebration on Sunday was followed by a fiesta of food and family celebration. We were honored and thankful to have Bishop Curlin join usas well. From our small beginning, we now serve over 1,700 families and continue to pray that the missionary zeal and pastoral zeal of the first American male saint will continue to inspire the People of God in the parish named for him.
DO YOU REMEMBER? ............... As it appeared in print 25 years ago ..... Charlotte, N.C. / August 27, 1977 ... “The growing number of Catholics in the Charlotte area has again resulted in the creation of a new parish from an area once served by another. Most Reverend Michael Begley revealed the establishment of St. John Neumann parish on a 12-acre site at 8451 Idlewild Road. “ An estimated 250 families to be served by the new parish were formerly members of Our Lady of the Assumption, on the Plaza at Independence.” Today ..... From our small beginning, we now serve over 1,700 families and continue to pray that the missionary zeal and pastoral zeal of the first American male saint will continue to inspire the People of God in the parish named for him.
June 19, 2002 marked the 25th Silver Anniversary of
the canonization of John Nepomucene Neumann. Shortly after the canonization of
this naturalized American citizen, the late Bishop Michael Begley established
St. John Neumann Parish in 1977, and Msgr. Lawrence Newman was appointed as
founding pastor.
Over 60 QUILTS, made by the newly formed quilting group, for the Augustinian Orphanage in Mexico will be on display in the gathering area. The group's next effort will be for AIDS patients. Most of the fabric used in these quilts was donated by parishioners. The youngest quilter is 8 years old and the oldest is over 80 so they are a diverse group and welcome new members. They still need lots more fabric so please bring any fabric you would like to donate to any Mass you attend in the future. And special thanks to Lynne Stoll, Gloria Burke & Marti Burnoski for their hard work and dedication.
